PURPOSE: Trabecular meshwork (TM) cells play a role in the regulation of aqueous humor outflow. In glaucoma, a large number of TM cells exhibiting mesenchymal phenotypes is associated with abnormal turnover of extracellular matrix components including collagen, leading to high intraocular pressure (IOP).
