The vital cofactors NADH and NADPH are prone to hydration, forming hydroxylated redox-inactive derivatives (NADHX and NADPHX) in cells. These damaged metabolites are repaired by two highly conserved enzymes, an NAD(P)HX dehydratase (NAXD) and an NAD(P)HX epimerase (NAXE).
