In the adult zebrafish kidney, nephrogenesis occurs as a regenerative response to injury and provides a model to explore cell signaling pathways required for nephron formation and engraftment. Differentiating kidney tubules interconnect with collecting system epithelia to generate a pathway for fluid excretion.
