The serine/threonine kinase, TOR (target of rapamycin), exists in two complexes, namely TORC1 (with either Tor1 or Tor2 kinase) and TORC2 (that contains Tor2, but not Tor1), and its pharmacological inhibition by rapamycin impairs the PIC (pre-initiation complex) formation at the ribosomal protein genes (and hence transcription and ribosome biogenesis).
