Oxidative stress plays a central role in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The rs1050450 (Pro198Leu) polymorphism of glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx1), a selenium-dependent antioxidant enzyme, may modulate selenium status and enzymatic activity.
