Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare but lethal skin neoplasm, caused, in approximately 80% of cases, by the genomic integration of Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) and the expression of viral oncoproteins small T (sT) and large T (LT) antigens.
