Parkinson's disease results from degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Here, we identify novel crosstalk between depolarization-induced entry of Ca2+ and lysosomal cation release in maintaining dopaminergic neuronal function.
