AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Type 1 diabetes is associated with excess coronary artery disease (CAD) risk even when known cardiovascular risk factors are accounted for. Genetic perturbation of haematopoiesis that alters leukocyte production is a novel independent modifier of CAD risk.
