Background: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an autoimmune demyelinating disorder, mainly characterized by severe optic neuritis, transverse myelitis and the high levels of antibodies against NMO-immunoglobulin G (IgG) or aquaporin-4 (AQP4).
