Lipotoxic cardiomyopathy (LCM) is characterized by cardiac steatosis, including the accumulation of fatty acids, triglycerides and ceramides. Model systems have shown the inhibition of ceramide biosynthesis to antagonize obesity and improve insulin sensitivity.
