Epilepsy is a neuronal dysfunction syndrome characterized by transiently and diffusely abnormal discharges of neurons in the brain. Previous studies have shown that mutations in the syntaxin 1b (stx1b) gene caused a familial fever-associated epilepsy syndrome.
