Mixed carcinomas in the esophagus are highly uncommon neoplasms that represent a diagnostic challenge on small tissue biopsies. We present a case of a primary mixed sarcomatoid-small cell carcinoma of the esophagus that was diagnosed after repeat sampling of the lesion.
