Type IVa pili (T4aP) are long, thin surface filaments involved in attachment, motility, biofilm formation, and DNA uptake. They are important virulence factors for many bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen and common cause of hospital-acquired infections.
