Sphingolipids are essential for normal cell growth of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Aureobasidin A (AbA), an antifungal drug, inhibits Aur1, an enzyme catalyzing the synthesis of inositol phosphorylceramide, and induces a strong growth defect in yeast.
