Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) phenotype modulation toward a synthetic phenotype is the main cause of cardiovascular disease. As a newly discovered myokine, Irisin is thought to be a promising candidate for the treatment of metabolic disturbances, as well as cardiovascular disease.
