Breast cancer is the most common female cancer, but it has relatively low rates of p53 mutations, suggesting other mechanisms are responsible for p53 inactivation. We have shown that the p53 isoform, Δ40p53, is highly expressed in breast cancer, where it may contribute to p53 inactivation.
