BACKGROUND: The increasing availability of DNA markers provides new metrics of inbreeding based on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), i.e. molecular inbreeding or the proportion of runs of homozygosity (ROH), as alternatives to traditional pedigree-based inbreeding coefficients.
