We have used a homologous transfection system employing cell lines derived from Xenopus hepatocytes and fibroblasts and cloned Xenopus estrogen receptor to identify a DNA sequence essential for efficient transcription of the powerful estrogen-regulated Xenopus laevis vitellogenin B1 promoter.
