BACKGROUND: To balance the demand for uptake of essential elements with their potential toxicity living cells have complex regulatory mechanisms. Here, we describe a genome-wide screen to identify genes that impact the elemental composition ('ionome') of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
