BACKGROUND: Idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF) is a rare fibro-inflammatory disorder characterized by a periaortic tissue which often encases the ureters causing acute renal failure. IRF histology shows fibrosis and a chronic inflammatory infiltrate with frequent tissue eosinophilia.
