Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) of childhood is an autoimmune disease characterized by abnormally increased destruction of platelets and decreased megakaryopoiesis. Stromal-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) plays a role in megakaryopoiesis and may be involved in the pathogenesis of ITP.
