A new autosomal mutation, Axd (axial defects), is described. Axd segregates in a simple Mendelian fashion, and it is dominant with incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity. The phenotype of Axd heterozygotes ranges from a variety of tail anomalies to visibly normal tails.
