Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. Various microorganisms have been proposed as etiologic agent suggesting a role for pattern-recognition receptors such as Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in disease pathogenesis, with a special interest in TLR-2.
