OBJECTIVE: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory disease of unknown origin. Both genetic and environmental factors are involved. A recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) found anthrax toxin receptor 2 (ANTXR2) to be associated with AS in Caucasians.
