Escherichia coli NZN111 is a double mutant with lactate dehydrogenase (ldhA) and pyruvate formate-lyase (pflB) inactivated. Under anaerobic conditions, disequilibrium of coenzyme NADH and NAD+ causes Escherichia coli NZN111 losing the glucose utilizing capability.
