Neurofilament light (NFL) proteins in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are a marker of neuronal damage, especially subcortical axonal injury and white matter disease. Subjects with Alzheimer's disease (AD) have shown elevated levels of CSF NFL as compared to controls.
