BACKGROUND: Mutations in the receptor genes of the transforming growth factor β pathway, TGFBR1 and TGFBR2, cause syndromes with thoracic aortic aneurysms, while genetic variants in TGFBR1 and TGFBR2 are associated with abdominal aortic aneurysms.
