Transcription of the fbp1 gene of Schizosaccharomyces pombe, encoding fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, is glucose repressible. We have constructed two hybrid genes, containing the fbp1 promoter, that allow selection for mutations that alter transcriptional regulation of fbp1.
