Susceptibility to sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM) in Caucasians has been consistently associated with alleles of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) 8.1 ancestral haplotype (AH) (defined by HLA-B*0801 and HLA-DRB1*0301).
