Unlike orthoretroviruses, foamy retroviruses (FV) synthesize Pol independently of Gag. The FV Pol precursor is cleaved only once between reverse transcriptase (RT) and integrase (IN) by the protease (PR), resulting in a PR-RT and an IN protein.
