Hyperbilirubinemia is frequently observed in Caucasian HIV patients treated with atazanavir. UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 polymorphism, UGT1A1*28, which is associated with atazanavir-induced hyperbilirubinemia, is less common in Asians than in Caucasians.
