Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are pivotal enzymes in the epigenetic modification or regulatory mechanisms of gene transcription. Based on previous assertions that the pathophysiology of schizophrenia is associated with epigenetics, we hypothesized that polymorphisms of HDAC genes might be related to schizophrenia.
