OBJECTIVE: To study whether Notch signaling, which regulates cell fate decisions and vessel morphogenesis, controls lymphatic development. METHODS AND RESULTS: In zebrafish embryos, sprouts from the axial vein have lymphangiogenic potential because they give rise to the first lymphatics.
