Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening syndrome in which an exaggerated but ineffective immune response leads to severe hyperinflammation. Key players in HLH are activated lymphocytes and histiocytes which infiltrate all organs and secrete large amounts of cytokines.
