Working memory (WM) dysfunction is a hallmark feature of schizophrenia. Functional imaging studies using WM tasks have documented both prefrontal hypo- and hyperactivation in schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is highly heritable, and it is unclear which susceptibility genes modulate WM and its neural correlates.
