BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The gene product of the uridine diphosphate glucuronosyl transferase 1A1 (UGT1A1) is crucial to bilirubin metabolism. Mutations in this gene subsequently result in disease presented with unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia.
