Using in vitro-constructed deletions and subcloned DNA fragments, we have identified a new gene, amiC, which regulates expression of the inducible Pseudomonas aeruginosa aliphatic amidase activity. The DNA sequence of the gene has been determined, and an open reading frame encoding a polypeptide of 385 amino acids (molecular mass, 42,834 Da) has been identified.
