Oncogenic activating mutations in the cytosolic serine/threonine kinase, BRAF, have been reported in a variety of neoplasms. BRAF relays signals from membrane-bound RAS downstream through the MAP/ERK (mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase) signaling pathway.
