DNA helicase II, the product of the uvrD gene, has been implicated in DNA repair, replication, and recombination. Because the phenotypes of individual uvrD alleles vary significantly, we constructed deletion-insertion mutations in the uvrD gene to determine the phenotype of cells lacking DNA helicase II.
