The 5-HT(3) receptor is a ligand-gated ion channel composed of five subunits. To date, five different human subunits are known, 5-HT(3AE), which are encoded by the serotonin receptor genes HTR3A, HTR3B, HTR3C, HTR3D and HTR3E, respectively.
