To test whether African ancestry is protective for severe dengue, we genotyped 49 hospitalized cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) as well as 293 neighborhood cases of dengue fever and 294 asymptomatic controls in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.
