The receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) is involved in microvascular and macrovascular complications in diabetes. The expression of RAGE is up-regulated in atherosclerotic plaques of diabetic animals, and the augmentation of atherosclerosis in diabetic mice is inhibited by the competition of RAGE.
