We observed increased ferritin levels in newly diagnosed MDS-RARS patients without transfusional iron-overload. Hence, we hypothesized RARS patients may harbor hemochromatosis-related mutations, which could contribute to the pathophysiology of this myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) subset.
