OBJECTIVE: Substantial evidence indicates that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs protect against colorectal cancer by altering cell cycle progression and/or inducing apoptosis, whereas p53 protein is crucial to maintaining cell-cycle arrest and regulating DNA repair, differentiation, and apoptosis.
