Yeast mcd4-174 mutants are blocked in glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchoring of protein, but the stage at which GPI biosynthesis is interrupted in vivo has not been identified, and Mcd4p has also been implicated in phosphatidylserine and ATP transport.
