It is reported here that the rpr DNA repair gene of Serratia marcescens does not complement an Escherichia coli xth nfo AP endonuclease mutation for resistance to methyl methanesulphonate (MMS). Rather, rpr sensitized Escherichia coli wild-type, xth, and nfo strains to MMS.
