Evolutionary processes can be inferred from comparisons of intraspecific polymorphism and interspecific divergence. We sequenced a 1.1-kb fragment of the cubitus interruptus Dominant (ciD) locus located on the nonrecombining fourth chromosome for ten natural lines of Drosophila melanogaster and nine of Drosophila simulans.
