Disruption of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae mitochondrial NADH kinase POS5 increases the mitochondrial mutation rate 50-fold. Whereas most multicellular eukaryotic genomes have one NADH kinase gene, the yeast genome contains three distinct genes encoding NAD/H kinase activity.
