Monoamine oxidase (MAO), a mitochondrial flavine containing enzyme, exists in two isoenzymes, MAO-A and MAO-B. Platelets contain MAO-B subtype, proposed to be a biomarker for different personality characteristics and vulnerability for substance abuse.
