Human beta-defensin-2 (hBD-2) is an inducible epithelial peptide antibiotic involved in cutaneous defense. Expression of hBD-2 in keratinocytes is strongly induced by IL-1beta and culture supernatants of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA).
